Rodney from Only Fools and Horses joins Frasier reboot cast

First-look images of the US comedy Frasier reboot have been unveiled, with British actor Nicholas Lyndhurst sharing a pint with Kelsey Grammer.

Best known for his portrayal of Del Boy’s younger sibling Rodney Trotter in Only Fools And Horses, Lyndhurst plays Alan Cornwall, Frasier’s former college companion, now a professor, in the new season.

Frasier, a show spun off from Cheers, began in 1993 and features Grammer as psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane.

In the latest season, the character has returned to Boston and is set to confront “new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfil”.

Grammar has previously praised Lyndhurst as “one of the funniest people” he has collaborated with.

Paramount+ revealed on Tuesday that the new series will air in October.

Frasier’s son Freddy will be portrayed by British actor Jack Cutmore-Scott, known for his role in the US crime series Deception.

Toks Olagundoye will take on the role of Olivia, a new character and the head of the university’s psychology department where Alan works.

Jess Salgueiro, known from The Expanse, is also set to join as Freddy’s roommate Eve,while Anders Keith takes on the role of Frasier’s nephew David.

Frasier initially aired from 1993 to 2004, and formerly featured Jane Leeves as DaphneMoon, David Hyde Pierce as Dr. Niles Crane, and Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle.

The series won numerous awards and received extensive praise from critics, securing 37Emmys and a total of 107 nominations. Kelsey Grammer’s portrayal of the character earnedhim Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild awards.

Recorded in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, the show isscheduled to premiere on Paramount+ on October 12th 2023.
