Sir David Jason in health scare as he shares update after being forced to postpone Only Fools gig

The legendary Del Boy actor has had to push back an upcoming convention appearance

Sir David Jason, 83, has revealed he needs a “new bionic body part fitted” after postponing an upcoming convention appearance.

While he stopped short in his initial statement of revealing exactly what body part needed attention, it’s been confirmed he is set to undergo hip surgery.

He shared the message on Facebook to inform Only Fools fans the event which was due to take place in October would no longer be going ahead.

Instead, the convention has been postponed until the New Year, with January already in the diary.

In his statement, he said: “I am so very sorry for the disappointment and all the inconvenience it may cause but we are having to change the date of the forthcoming Only Fools And Horses Convention.

“Unfortunately I have just been advised I need a new bionic body part fitted.

“(I won’t tell you which part it is, or you will all want one!) And don’t worry it’s not being supplied by Monkey Harris, it’ll be the pukka gear.”

Jason’s statement continued: “I really hope everyone will be able to make the new date (January 13 and 14) and we can all have something cushty to look forward to!

“These events are such an enjoyable celebration for myself and the rest of the Only Fools cast, and it is such a privilege to meet so many of you…

“But I want to do it with a smile on my face I always have had,” he added.

The 83-year-old apologised again as he signed off: “Once again, please accept my sincere apologies as it was not a decision I took at all lightly and I hope that you understand my situation.

“Hoping to be lovely jubbly when I meet you all in the new year.

“All cushty wishes until then,” the Only Fool legend concluded.

Tickets for the gig can cost punters hundreds of pounds with meet and greets with Jason permitted as well as signed photos.

Discussing Jason’s health woe, a source told The Sun: “Sir David needs to have a hip replacement operation and needs the time off to recover so with great sadness he had to make the decision to reschedule the convention.

“But he’s set on making the January date go off without a hitch.”

Jason took on the iconic role of Del Boy from 1981 to 2003 before time was called on Only Fools and Horses.
