The Time on Our Hands episode of Only Fools and Horses followed wheeler-dealers Del Boy and Rodney Trotter as they finally become millionaires, after years of hard graft. More than 24 million viewers tuned in to watch the sitcom’s Christmas special which aired on BBC One way back in December 1996 – doesn’t time fly!

We reckon avid Only Fools fans can all still remember sitting on the sofa watching it as a family like it was yesterday, and you’ve probably seen it 100 times since!

The episode opens with a nervous Raquel Turner planning a family dinner at the Trotters’ famous Peckham flat with her parents, Del Boy, Damien, Rodney, and Cassandra. The evening doesn’t go quite to plan when all her hard work is ruined by a huge, and very funny, blunder caused by clumsy Uncle Albert.

The next day the Trotters’ lives are well and truly turned upside down when Raquel’s dad makes a discovery that lands the family a mighty windfall. He finds an old antique watch belonging to Del Boy and Rodney, and it is later sold at auction making them a lot of money.

So after years of saying: “This time next year we’ll be millionaires”, Del Boy’s dream becomes a reality, one he finds hard to grasp.
