Only Fools and Horses fans are all making the same joke about the ship stuck in the Suez Canal

Only Fools and Horses fans have taken to Twitter to joke that the captain of the ship is actually a famous character in the show

Fans of Only Fools and Horses have been joking on social media that the captain of the huge container ship blocking the Suez Canal is Uncle Albert.

Albert Gladstone Trotter, played by Buster Merryfield in the comedy show., was the great uncle of Del Boy and Rodney in the series and joined the Merchant Navy but all seven of the ships on which he served sank.

Taking to Twitter, fans of the show began sharing a photo of Uncle Albert with the caption: “Captain of the cargo ship stuck in the Suez canal finally revealed.”

And, you guessed it, Only Fools and Horses fans went mad.

Many fans of the show chimed in, with one tweeting: “Ship captain on the boat stuck in the Suez Canal is finally named. Uncle Albert.”

Making reference to one of the Only Fools and Horses well known slang terms, one fan said: “You’ve only gone and bloody disrupted global trade, Uncle Albert, you plonker!!”

The 400-metre long Ever Given became wedged diagonally across a southern section of the Suez Canal amid high winds early on Tuesday, blocking one of the world’s busiest waterways.

More than a dozen tugboats were deployed on Saturday to use high tides to shift the Japanese-owned vessel, with world trade sent into a tailspin as a result of the blockage.

According to reports on Monday (March 29), the ship has now been partially refloated and has restarted its engines, raising hopes the busy waterway will soon be reopened.

Video posted on social media appeared to show the ship’s stern had swung around, finally opening space in the canal.
