Eagle-eyed Only Fools and Horses fans watching adverts have spotted a classic star of the iconic sitcom returning to their TV sets in recent months as they pointed out a familiar face in the latest Maltesers advert.
The short ad, running for just 20 seconds, encourages viewers to ‘look on the light side’, with an awkward family moment providing some laughs.
In the ad a young man can be seen introducing his grandma’s new ‘companion’ Gerard to the rest of the family, with the cheeky Grandma teasing: “He calls him that because he doesn’t want to imagine us getting it on!”
Only Fools fans have correctly pointed out though that the star of this ad is actually none other than Josephine Welcome, who they remember best as Dr Shaheed in the 1989 Only Fools episode Sickness and Wealth.
In the episode Del is suffering from uncomfortable stomach pains and is getting worried about his health, but is also dealing with a phobia of doctors.
When he eventually goes to see his GP he finds that his usual has been replaced by a young woman from India, Dr Shaheed. After Del makes a number of unhelpful quips to mask his discomfort, lying about his lifestyle throughout the appointment.
This eventually leads Dr Shaheed to send Del to hospital for checks on his appendix, only for them to diagnose him with irritable bowel syndrome due to his stressful and unhealthy lifestyle.
