Only Fools and Horses

HAD ENOUGH My husband’s obsession with TV’s Only Fools And Horses is driving me bonkers

DEAR DEIDRE: IF I see one more picture of Rodney or Del Boy, I think I’ll explode.

My husband is obsessed with TV’s Only Fools And Horses.

He’s 49 and wants a Fools And Horses fancy-dress party, with a “Trotters’ car” cake for his 50th.

We’ve seen the musical together four times and he’s been with various friends another six times at least. He’s word-perfect!

I was relieved the musical was ending but now a theatre production may start touring.

I’m 47 and work in a care home. My husband works for the council.

We’ve had a happy marriage but our garage is bulging with photos, video recordings of all the old episodes and other memorabilia.

He’s on auction sites looking for stuff constantly and has more flat caps and sheepskin coats than Trigger’s broom has had new heads.

Our son has just gone to university, which has cost us a bomb in rent and tuition fees.

I just know the next stage is my husband will start stuffing our son’s empty bedroom with his junk.

We can’t afford it, I’m desperate for him to stop.

DEIDRE SAYS:  In a quiet moment, explain to him that you’re worried about your finances and ask him not to buy any more.

Furthermore, encourage him to sell some to help boost your bank account so you can pay for things you can both enjoy.

There are some Only Fools And Horses appreciation societies online so joining one would give him a chance to share his passion with other enthusiasts and give him an outlet to sell some of his memorabilia.

If it’s becoming a real obsession, check out my Counselling support pack which explains more about cognitive behavioural therapy and will help him curb his spending.
