Only Fools and Horses: Legendary actor Sir David Jason has road named after him in touching tribute

The 82-year-old actor said he was 'thrilled' to have a road named after him

Sir David Jason, the actor who brought to life the legendary character of Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter from the iconic Only Fools and Horses sitcom, has seen his name eternalised at the famous Pinewood Studios just outside of London.

The new road found within the grounds of the studio will be named David Jason Way. The 82-year-old actor attended the opening ceremony for the road on Tuesday, where he was joined by members of the production team for Still Open All Hours.

Sir David starred in all six seasons of the show, which was filmed at the studios between 2013 and 2019. Welcoming the honour, Sir David said he was thrilled to have the road named after him.

“It is such a thrill to have a road named after me at the iconic Pinewood Studios. As a teenager and out on a day trip on my motorbike, I remember looking through the gates of Pinewood and thinking how wonderful it must be to work there, never realising that one day I would.”

He added: “It really is a special moment to be honoured in this way.”

Sarah McGettigan, Head of Pinewood TV, said: “We are delighted to honour Sir David Jason with his own road.

“He is part of the heritage of Pinewood TV and we always enjoy welcoming him back. The new road is part of the development of the original Studio site and runs from opposite our TV studios towards two of our brand new purpose-built stages.”

In addition to Still Open All Hours, Sir David also shot several other TV miniseries at Pinewood Studios, including The Colour of Magic in 2008, in which he played Rincewind, a fictional character appearing in several of the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett.
