The most popular characters on Two And A Half Men were arguably the main ones, including Jon Cryer as Alan Harper, Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper, Angus T. Jones as Jake Harper, and in later seasons, Ashton Kutcher as Walden Schmidt. But when it comes to popularity by Instagram followers, the numbers are quite different. Interestingly, not only does the youngest main cast member, Jones, fail to rank in the top 10 with just 12,800 followers, but one of the more notable names, Marin Hinkle, has even fewer, at just 8,146. Hinkle, who played Alan’s ex-wife, Judith Harper, currently stars on the Amazon Prime Video original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Instagram followings, of course, aren’t a true measure of popularity in every sense. And chances are that if the series were re-cast today, a new cast would see much higher numbers when it comes to Instagram followers. Nonetheless, it’s a big deal for some actors to be active and share with their fans, on the site.
1. Melanie Lynskey (Rose) – 17,700 Followers
Melanie Lynskey provided some hilarity combined with notes of creepiness on the series as the obsessive neighbor, Rose. She was also integral to the storyline that involved the end to Charlie Sheen’s character. Lynskey has since gone on to do voice work and has appeared in series like Castle Rock and Mrs. America.
She doesn’t have a huge presence on Instagram, however, and while she has more followers than the average person, she ranks near the bottom when compared to her castmates. This might be because Lynskey doesn’t spend much time there, having only posted 20 items, the last of which was from February 2021. She describes herself there as a mama first and actor second.
2. Graham Patrick Martin (Eldridge Mackelroy) – 25,800 Followers
It’s surprising that Graham Patrick Martin, who played Jake’s best friend Eldridge, doesn’t have more followers, especially considering that he’s a millennial, born in 1991.
Martin continues to act, having appeared in Major Crimes from 2012 to 2018. He has 165 posts that consist of a mix of personal photos, as well as images from projects with which he has been involved.
3. Jon Cryer (Alan Harper) – 28,000 Followers
Perhaps most surprising of all is that Jon Cryer, one of the more high-profile actors from the show, ranks near the bottom when it comes to Instagram followers. The state of his account might have something to do with it: with only 17 posts to date, it’s clear Cryer isn’t really one for social media.
Of the few posts he has made, most are of he and his cast members at various media events posing for group shots. Chances are if Cryer wanted to be more active on Instagram, he would easily get the followers to join his journey.
4. Jennifer Taylor (Chelsea) – 34,700 Followers
The role of Chelsea, who appeared periodically on the series, starting in the very first episode as Charlie’s serious girlfriend, is Jennifer Taylor’s best known. With acting credits that date back to 1998, she hasn’t had any major breakthrough roles just yet.
This might be why Taylor doesn’t have a huge Instagram presence, though her following is pretty impressive, all things considered. With 768 posts, she promotes projects, posts personal selfies, inspirational sayings, and more. Interestingly, she uses her bio to clarify that she is not Jen Taylor, another actor who plays Cortana in the Halo video games and voices the Microsoft smart assistant of the same name.
5. Holland Taylor (Evelyn Harper) – 152,000 Followers
Some might believe that social media is a new generation’s game, but that isn’t the case when you consider actors like Holland Taylor, who has more than 150,000 followers despite being older than the mean demographic on the social media platform, at 78.
Her account only has 82 posts, but her following might have something to do with her long-time relationship with A-list actor Sarah Paulson. She posts mainly memes, political messages, and a mix of photos from all over, but not many personal images.
6. April Bowlby (Kandi) – 181,000 Followers
Appearing on the series for several seasons, first in a recurring role, then in a main role, and then as a guest star, April Bowlby made waves as the beautiful but ditzy Kandi. She does the same on Instagram, where she promotes her role on HBO Max’s superhero series, Doom Patrol.
With plenty of selfies, she also promotes her podcast called 75 Reads, where she and co-host Jo Bozarth discuss their favorite books.
7. Amber Tamblyn (Jenny Harper) – 320,000 Followers
Tamblyn only appeared on the two final seasons of the series as Jenny, the daughter of Charlie Harper. Previous to that role, however, she was known for starring in the primetime series Joan of Arcadia, as well as for the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Tamblyn is pretty active on Instagram, with more than 1,800 posts. She posts a mix of promos for events she is attending and projects she’s in, as well as some personal photos.
8. Judy Greer (Bridget Schmidt) – 344,000 Followers
Judy Greer is one of those actors who has been in so many projects that she’s instantly recognizable as “that character from that movie.” Along with her role on this series as Walden’s ex-wife, the character actor has been in movies like What Women Want, 13 Going on 30, 27 Dresses, and Love & Other Drugs, as well as series like Archer, The Big Bang Theory, Arrested Development, and, most recently, Kidding.
So it comes as no surprise that Greer is pretty popular on Instagram. However, what is surprising is that her account has as many followers as it does when she doesn’t really post a lot. To date, she has only about 660 posts. She hilariously refers to herself in her bio as a “part-time actor, producer, and director with zero Emmy or Oscar noms.”
9. Charlie Sheen (Charlie Harper) – 1 Million Followers
The top two actors from the sitcom when it comes to Instagram popularity are both big names in Hollywood. Charlie Sheen is from an older generation, having acted in plenty of classic movies, and he isn’t quite as into social media as Ashton Kutcher.
Nonetheless, he still has a million followers on Instagram who look for his various video clips and other content. He has only posted 223 times thus far, including plenty of nostalgic throwback photos.
10. Ashton Kutcher (Walden Schmidt) – 4.2 Million Followers
Ashton Kutcher isn’t just an actor who has appeared in many movies and TV series, he is also a model, producer, and entrepreneur. He has invested in several tech start-ups, so it’s no surprise that when it comes to social media, he knows what he is doing and uses the technology to his advantage. Though Instagram doesn’t appear to be his social media platform of choice, as he has only posted about 200 times.
Even so, he tops the list with over 4 million followers. He posts a mixed bag of personal photos, glimpses of his work, and memes. He promotes the website for his wine and even includes a phone number where fans can text him.
