Here’s Why Tom Selleck Was A Little Scared To Be On The Show Friends

Tom Selleck really loved working with the cast of the popular comedy series Friends. He joined the cast at the end of the second season and played the role of Doctor Richard Burke. Selleck also said that he was a little scared to be on the show. So, here’s why he felt that way.

Tom made a few comments when he was asked how it felt to be in the famous nineties sitcom, he added: “I hadn’t completed a 3 digicam dwell present since Taxi. It scared me a little, but that’s the price you pay for the opportunity!”

His role in the series was as a divorced ophthalmologist who was a friend of Monica’s parents, and at the beginning, they hid their relationship from her parents. However, they eventually split up over Richard’s reluctance into a commitment to having children.

Initially, he signed on to do three episodes only, but he was later approached by the producers; they asked him if he can make few more appearances for more episodes after being impressed by his performance.

After reaching a new agreement, Tom made the following comments: “So then I did more, and I quickly realized wow, this is a big deal. It just worked and I thought it was great”.  In addition, his role earned him an Emmy Award nomination in 2000 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

On November 12, 2019, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Warner Bros. is developing a Friends reunion for HBO Max, with the whole cast set to make their return along with the creators David Crane and Martha Kauffman.

The reunion will be unscripted and will take place on Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. in Burbank, the same location where the complete sequence was shot.

On February 21, 2020, HBO confirmed that the reunion special would be named The One Where They Got Back Together and was set to be released in May 2020. However, on March 18, 2020, it was postponed and there was no announcement for an upcoming date release.

Upon hearing about the reunion special, Tom Selleck expressed his interest to make a return by saying: “if the opportunity came up, I’d do it again !” He advised Radio Times: “I’d say yes without seeing even a script. What would be really good is for Richard to come between Monica and Chandler again.”

The star of Magnum P.I. added that he nonetheless needed there to be an attraction between his character and Monica by stating: “I’d hope there’d still be sparks. I loved that scene as the eye doctor looking into her eyes. Courteney Cox has very pretty eyes.”

Tom Selleck is presently featured as one of the main characters in the American Police Drama TV series Blue Bloods, and their latest season was premiered on September 29, 2019.
