Only Fools and Horses legend Nicholas Lyndhurst looks adorable as child star

The Rodney Trotter actor was only 15 years old when he appeared in the children's mini-series

Actor Nicholas Lyndhurst is a man who needs zero introduction. The TV star is known to millions of Only Fools and Horses fans as ‘plonker’ Rodney Trotter – a role he played brilliantly between 1981 and 2003.

Alongside Sir David Jason as older brother Del Boy, Nicholas struck up one of television’s greatest ever comedy double acts and rose in the ranks as national treasures. But before he ever landed the part of Rodney in the BBC sitcom he was already a TV star from a young age.

The 61-year-old kick-started his acting career as a child back in 1974 playing the part of Peter in the television show Heidi.

One year later Nicholas played Davy Keith in Anne of Avonlea before landing a major role in 1976. At only 15 years old the actor starred as both the prince and the pauper in the much-loved BBC drama adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic novel about mistaken identities. And he looks so adorable!

The TV show was first broadcast in 1976 for a children’s TV slot but soon became essential viewing for the whole family. The six-part mini-series follows the story of King Henry VIII who is dying and a young Prince Edward is heir to the English throne.

Against all odds, the prince meets Tom Canty, a pauper’s son, and the two boys look identical. Taking a chance the boys switch places in an attempt to experience each other’s lives, but things do not go to plan!

Lyndhurst then played Adam Parkinson on the TV series Butterflies between 1978 and 1983. Comedy fans will also recognise him as Gary Sparrow in the time-traveling sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart during the 90s.
