In Great Britain, Only Fools and Horses is one of our all time favourite sitcoms.
Although the show launched in 1981 and until the final episode in 2003 – avid fans still watch re-runs of episodes which are timeless.
Actor John Challis played the role of Boycie, a well-to-do friend of Del Boy and Rodney Trotter in the BBC comedy.
Boycie, a second-hand car dealer, is famed for his deep, contagious laugh and wallows in success and superiority when among friends in The Nags Head pub.
The Only Fools and Horses special, Time on Our Hands, pulled in a massive audience of 24 million viewers when it aired on December 29, 1996, making it one of the most watched television episodes in British history.
But it seems the success of Only Fools and Horses goes beyond the UK.
Apparently it’s the most-watched show in Serbia.
So in January 2020, television icon John Challis set out to Belgrade to find out why the show was so popular in Serbia.
He is welcomed to the Balkan country almost a national hero as he visits a Royal Palace and even gets invited to a private reception in his honour hosted by The British Ambassador amongst many interesting stops on his journey.
You might argue that this could be interpreted as a ‘state visit’.
From a meet and greet in a shopping centre, to teaching cockney rhyming slang to English students, the documentary is set to uncover what it’s like to be ‘Boycie in Belgrade.’
