Jennifer Lopez Caused A Stir With Her Comments In Halftime

Jennifer Lopez’s outspokenness drew attention when her documentary Halftime premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. In the film, she made a controversial statement regarding the decision to have two artists share the billing for one of the most significant performances in the world, saying, “This was the worst idea in the world.”

Lopez’s unfiltered honesty has been a defining characteristic throughout her career, particularly when it comes to evaluating the success and standing of other prominent female stars. This trait of hers has been highlighted by an interview from February 1998 with Movieline Magazine. She shared her unreserved thoughts on Hollywood A-listers such as Salma Hayek, Cameron Diaz, Claire Danes, Winona Ryder, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Madonna.

“She’s a sexy bombshell, and those are the kinds of roles she does. I do all kinds of different things. It makes me laugh when she says she got offered Selena, which was an outright lie,” Lopez said about Salma Hayek

While both actresses succeeded in 1997, they took very different paths in the industry. Salma Hayek starred alongside Matthew Perry in the romantic comedy Fools Rush In, while Jennifer Lopez appeared in the financially successful adventure-horror film Anaconda.

Jennifer Lopez Called Renowned Actress A ‘Lucky Model’

Speaking about Cameron Diaz, another actress who rose to fame in the late 1990s, Lopez had a slightly more positive view. She described Diaz as a “lucky model who’s been given a lot of opportunities” and expressed her desire for Diaz to have made more of those opportunities.

Despite this, Lopez acknowledged Diaz’s beauty and screen presence and praised her performance in the film My Best Friend’s Wedding, saying she thought Diaz was good when directed well.

“She’s beautiful and has a great presence, though, and in My Best Friend’s Wedding, I thought, ‘When directed, she can be good.’”

Lopez further implied that Gwyneth Paltrow’s rise to fame was due to her relationship with a popular A-list celebrity. In the same interview, Lopez assessed Madonna’s acting skills, which she deemed not as remarkable as her vocal talents.

Halftime is available for streaming on Netflix.
