Clint Eastwood Quotes That Will Make Your Day

Successful actor, Academy Award-winner, and producer, it seems like Clint Eastwood does it all in Hollywood. This 90-year-old tackles each project with the grit and toughness that only one could learn from his time in the wild wild west.

So naturally, the legendary actor has dropped some pretty memorable bits of knowledge along the way. Some sayings were taken from his movies, and others, right from the horse’s mouth.

Whether it’s about mental toughness or straight up badass-ness, these are some of our favorite Eastwood quotes.

Top 10 Clint Eastwood Quotes

  1. “I tried being reasonable, but I didn’t like it.”
  2. “I don’t wanna need you because I can’t have you.”
  3. “Take your work seriously, but don’t take yourself seriously.”
  4. “I’m not a regrets-type person.”
  5. “If I was a dreamer, I would have achieved nothing. And I certainly would not deal with such trifles as playing in movies.”

6. Clint Eastwood, the Outlaw

The award-winning actor’s name was synonymous with western films for some time, and it’s there that some of his best quotes came to be. Like this one from The Outlaw Josey Wales, “Dying ain’t much of living boy.”

Eastwood stars as the wanted criminal Josey Wales. A person turns up to arrest him, and Wales asks if he is a bounty hunter. The man responds by saying, “A man has got to do something for a living these days.” Wales reply is a classic, and also a song by Bon Jovi!

7. ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’ Eastwood

Though we think Eastwood is far from ugly in this 1966 western movie, he says something profound and that’s making our list.

“In this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend. The ones with loaded guns and the ones who dig. You dig.”

The lines come after a big shootout, and the bad guy’s dead. However, the buried treasure has yet to be found. Eastwood’s character, Joe, makes his former friend dig for it. He is holding the gun after all.

8. Million Dollar Question

“OK, you did two things wrong. First, you asked a question, and second, you asked another question,” Eastwood says in the movie “Million Dollar Baby.” He directs, co-produces, scores, and stars in the film. Eastwood takes on the role of an underappreciated boxing coach, Frankie Dunn.

He’s hard-nosed and won’t take on Margaret “Maggie” Fitzgerald (Hillary Swank). The two are outsiders in the boxing world, but they fight their way into the ring in this critically acclaimed film.

9. Another Epic Line

We’ve for sure heard this one used in conversation before. But did you know that it was Eastwood who said it first in “Sudden Impact?”

“Go ahead, make my day.”

In this Dirty Harry film, Eastwood walks into a cafe and discovers that a robbery is in process. As history would have it, he shoots his way into and out of it.

The line is a result of Harry’s response to the hostage situation. Plus, he also uses the line again in the film towards the end.

10. The Quote Heard Around the World

Perhaps our most favorite and one of Eastwood’s most famous, this is another quote from the hugely successful film “Dirty Harry.”

“You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?”

Dirty Harry is at it again, breaking up a robbery, and again the scene has to do with breakfast. This time the robber tries to take his weapon. This is how Eastwood gets to the notorious line:

“I know what you’re thinking, punk. You’re thinking ‘Did he fire six shots or only five?’ Now, to tell you the truth, I’ve forgotten myself in all this excitement. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and it will blow your head clean off, you’ve gotta ask yourself a question: ‘Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?…’”

This quote is so iconic that it’s made the AFI’s 100 Greatest Movie Quotes of All Time list, according to the American Film Institute.

Jot some of these quotes down, memorize them or just re-read the post, but a good quote always makes the perfect comeback. And in this case, Eastwood seems to be the king of comebacks.
