Only Fools and Horses

The sad story of the Only Fools and Horses star who had an affair with David Bowie and whose cousin is a Prime Minister

She met a tragic end in 1985

There are many Only Fools and Horses stars who have gone beyond the show with extraordinary claims to fame.

Some of the characters are lesser known ones.

For example, Ewan Stewart, who played Doctor Robbie Meadows in the episode ‘In Sickness and in Wealth’ starred alongside Leonardo Di Caprio in Titanic as the officer in charge.

This particular celebrity starred in only one episode ‘Who’s a Pretty Boy?’.

In the episode Del Boy, Rodney and Grandad get called by Denzil to paint his Peckham flat.

Originally, Denzil had chosen another painter by the name of Brendan O’ Shaughnessy but Del gets his word in as usual to convince Denzil to go with him instead.

“He’s a good man. Did a beautiful job of Kings Avenue. Mind you, I only saw it after the fire.”

Denzil quickly hires Del, Rodney and Granddad, but there is one person who is definitely far from happy.

Corinne, played by Eva Mottley, is Denzil’s wife at the time.

She’s notable for her fiery tongue and quick temper, as we see in this episode.

When Corinne sees Del in her flat she says, “What the hell is he doing in my home,” knowing full well of the Trotters’ antics.

After messing up the catering for Denzil and Corinne’s wedding, there’s no hope she’d allow Del to paint their flat right?

Well he does so anyway, and as we all know he replaces Corinne’s already dead canary with one they buy from the pet shop!

Corinne returns shocked to see her pet is alive and well: “When I woke up this morning he was dead!”

These are the final words of Corinne as we never see her again.

The character was written off due to Eva’s suicide in 1985.

She was heavily involved in drugs and alcohol, as a result having serious debts.

Her body was found on Valentine’s Day in her flat in Maida Vale, West London, and she only 31 years old.

John Sullivan never replaced her, instead getting rid of the character by saying that Denzil and Corinne had split up.

One interesting fact about Eva was that her grandfather, Ernest Mottley, was the first mayor of Bridgetown – Barbados’s capital.

More impressively, her cousin Mia Mottley was elected Prime Minister of Barbados in 2018 and still heads the island to this day.

Eva was also involved in a relationship with David Bowie for a couple of years.

Eva was considered a real beauty and excellent actress, starring in Steve McQueen’s Widows drama in 1983 – but she walked off the production set prematurely after claims of being racially abused whilst filming.
