Michael J Fox “stunned” to hear tragic Robin Williams was living with Parkinson’s disease

THE Back to the Future star spoke out after Williams' widow revealed her late husband was suffering from the illness when he committed suicide.

ACTOR Michael J Fox was “stunned” to learn that tragic Robin Williams had Parkinson’s disease.

The Back to the Future star, who has Parkinson’s, spoke out after Williams’ widow Susan Schneider revealed her late husband was suffering from the illness as well as depression when he killed himself.

Michael, 53, told his 1.1 million followers on Twitter: “Stunned to learn Robin had PD.”

He was speaking after Schneider, 50, released a statement in which she said Williams, previously addicted to drink and drugs, had not fallen off the wagon as he fought the degenerative nervous disorder.

“Robin’s sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with depression and anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson’s disease which he was not yet ready to share publicly,” she added.

Michael, who was diagnosed with the incurable illness in 1991, said he was “pretty sure” that Williams’ support for his Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research predated his diagnosis.             

“A true friend; I wish him peace,” Fox added.           

Parkinson’s causes shaking, slow movement and memory problems.

Williams’ friend Billy Connolly, 71, and boxing legend Muhammad Ali, 72, also have the disease.
