Only Fools and Horses fans decide they’re calling Keir Starmer ‘Dave’ from now on after revelation

The politician was appearing on Piers Morgan's Life Stories when he revealed an interesting fact about himself

Last night saw Labour leader Keir Starmer make a somewhat unusual appearance on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on ITV, and this came with an interesting Only Fools and Horses related revelation.

During the hour long TV special the leader of the opposition spoke candidly about his memories, his regrets, his relationship with his parents, and even a boozy night out drinking with George Clooney.

Perhaps one of the weirdest things to come out of the chat though was the revelation that Sir Keir’s middle name is actually Rodney.

The politician revealed he hates the name, so much so that he made sure it was removed from his wedding, saying in the interview: “I haven’t used that name in a very, very long time.”

This is of course the same name as Nicholas Lyndhurst’s iconic Only Fools and Horses character Rodney Trotter, a character so famous he’s almost become synonymous with the name.

Fans of Only Fools and Horses online naturally leapt at the revelation and the jokes started pouring in on twitter at the Labour leader’s expense.

One person said: “I think Keir Starmer is coming across really well on #LifeStories Everyone is SO going to call him Rodney after this.”

“Rodney you plonker @Keir_Starmer , ” another said.

Other fans harked back to the classic Only Fools running joke between Trigger and Rodney, where Trigger mistakenly believes Rodney’s name is Dave.

“Can we start calling him Keir “Dave” Starmer, after the Rodney comment?

“I liked him before this and now I like him more #LifeStories,” said another.

“Apparently, Keir Starmer’s middle name is Rodney & he’s not very happy about it….I hope no one refers to him as ‘Dave’, Geddit? Highly Amusing or Childish, you decide?” said someone else.

For those unfamiliar with the hilarious running gag, Britbox have shared a compilation of classic ‘Dave’ moments from the iconic sitcom on YouTube for you to watch.

Critics of Keir Starmer are already fond of calling him Keith so you do get the feeling we could see a lot more of this Rodney gag flying around on Twitter in future.
