Inside Only Fools and Horses star Tessa Peake-Jones’ relationship with on-screen son

Only Fools and Horses star Tessa Peake-Jones, 64, had a 29-year relationship with her on-screen son Douglas Hodge, 62, who played the adult Damien Trotter

Only Fools and Horses star Tessa Peake-Jones is best known for playing Raquel Turner in the much-loved comedy sitcom.

However fans of the show, which starred David Jason as Del Boy and Nicolas Lyndhurst as Rodney Trotter, may be surprised to learn that Tessa, 64, had a 29-year relationship Douglas Hodge who played her her on-screen son.

Douglas, 62, made one appearance in the hit comedy and starred as the adult Damien Trotter, who was the son of Raquel and Del Boy, in the 1996 Christmas special which was titled ‘Heroes and Villains’.

Tessa was in a relationship with Douglas from 1984 until they split in 2013 and the couple share children Mollie Rose Hodge, 31, and Charlie Hodge.

It comes after Douglas paid tribute to his late mum on March 28 2022 and shared a heartwarming photograph with his 5,405 Twitter followers.

Douglas, who is based in Manhattan, New York City, according to his Twitter bio, was seen planting a sweet kiss on his mum’s head and wrote: “My mum passed away tonight from covid. Happy Mother’s Day mumma. Xxxx.”

The actor was inundated with comments from his followers who sent messages of support.

One penned: “Difficult to be positive at a sad time like this, but each Mothering Sunday you will feel that much closer to your ‘mumma’. May she rest in peace.”

Another added: “Awww Douglas that is absolutely heartbreaking for me my thoughts & prayers are with you at this very sad & distressing time.”

A third wrote: “Aww sorry to hear that Donald your mum is safe in angels arms in heaven condolences to you.”

In March 2022 Ron Pember, who played the role of Baz in Only Fools and Horses, passed away at the age of 87.

His grandson Paul confirmed the news on Twitter as he shared he passed away on Tuesday 8 March.

Paul was first to pay tribute as he shared a snap of him alongside the caption: “The sadness now is the happiness then. That’s the deal. 11.04.1934 – 08.03.2022 #ronpember #grandad.”

The official Only Fools and Horses Twitter account reposted the message, which they captioned: “We are saddened to hear of the news of the death of Ron Pember who played Baz in the series 3 episode ‘Homesick’ Our thoughts and warm wishes go to his family and friends.”

Meanwhile fans also shared their sadness over his loss as one person commented: “RIPRon Pember. Appeared in absolutely everything. Wonderfully. Probably best known for ‘Secret Army’.”
