Heartbroken Only Fools and Horses star reveals his mum has died of Covid

Douglas Hodge played adult Damien and had a long term relationship with one of his Only Fools co-stars

Only Fools and Horses actor Douglas Hodge has shared that his mum passed away last night from Covid. The star took to Twitter to announce the sad news, and shared a photo alongside his post showing him kissing his late mum on the forehead.

Writing on Twitter in the early hours of this morning (Monday, March 28), Douglas said: “My mum passed away tonight from covid. Happy Mother’s Day mumma. Xxxx.” He shared a wonderful photo of him with his mum, who is beaming at the camera as her son kisses her forehead.

Douglas played the adult Damien in the heroes and villains special of Only Fools and Horses. The episode, which first aired on Christmas Day in 1996, saw Del and Rodney invited to a fancy dress party. They decide to go dressed as Batman and Robin.

Damien appears in the opening of the episode while Rodney is having a nightmare. The dream is set in the dystopian world of 2026 and Damien is head of the now multinational Trotters Independent Traders and apparently ruler of the Western world.

In the dream we see Damien forcing President Keanu Reeves to declare war on China.

Another connection Only Fools fans may not know about is Douglas’s former relationship with Tessa Peake-Jones, who played Raquel Turner on the show.

The couple were together for 27 years before splitting up in 2013, and they share two children.
