Only Fools and Horses

The Only Fools and Horses extra who became a huge Hollywood star after acting in the show

Yes, it's really him from Harry Potter!

The It’s Only Rock and Roll episode of Only Fools and Horses sees Rodney Trotter form a band in hopes of a glittering career in the music game.

The lead singer of the ‘edgy’ group, which is named ‘A Bunch of Wallies’, is feisty Mickey Maguire – or more commonly known as Mental Mickey according to Del Boy Trotter.

Another member of the band is Stew who plays the guitar.

During the band’s rehearsal at the community hall, Del Boy drops by to convince the band he should be their manager after securing them a gig at The Shamrock Club.

Looking very suave dressed in a suit and a pair of sunglasses, cocky Del winds Mental Mickey up before telling the group: “Let’s hear you”.

Guitarist Stew then replies: “Yeah come on, he’s not going to put us off.”

Sporting an oversized leather jacket, jeans, Doc Martin boots, and spiky hairdo, Stew also states that the band wants to be ‘just a little bit rich, as money isn’t everything’.

Movie and television buffs may recognise the actor who played Stew in the band, he’s a pretty big deal on the big screen!

Actor David Thewlis portrayed the rocker Stew in Only Fools and Horses when the episode aired back in 1985.

Since his stint on the BBC sitcom David has carved out an extraordinarily successful career in film and television.

Fans of Harry Potter will know David as Remus Lupin who appears in the Prisoner of Azkaban, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and both parts of the Deathly Hallows.

Remus was a half-blood wizard and the only son of Lyall and Hope Lupin who taught at Hogwarts School.

David has also played Ares in Justice League (2017), Sir Patrick in Wonder Woman (2017), Leslie Payne in Legend (2015), Father in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008), Keith Jennings in The Omen (2006), plus many more.

He’s also set to play Peylak in Avatar 2 which is due for release next year.

The 57-year-old also has a long list of television credits dating back to the 1980s following his Only Fools appearance.

These include Dandelion Dead (1994), Dinotopia (2002), Fargo (2017), Barkskins (2020), and Big Mouth (2018-2020) plus others.

It’s fair to say David Thewlis has come a long way since the “Bunch of Wallies’!
