The British actor, best known for portraying many iconic characters like Superman and Sherlock Holmes, is back on dominating Netflix with the second season of The Witcher. The TV adaptation of book series of the same name explores Cavill’s character, Geralt of Rivia, and Princess Ciri in the kingdom.

1. Henry Cavill Made His Film Debut In The Early 2000s

Born in 1983, young Henry Cavill made his film debut in the early 2000s in a film called Laguna. When he was 16, he met Russell Crowe on the set of Proof of Life, which was shot at Cavill’s school. The two linked up once again for Man of Steel in 2013, but this time, both of them were bonafide Hollywood actors.

However, Cavill once considered military acting, should acting doesn’t work out for him. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill, who came from a military background, said that he had a high chance of joining the Royal Marines if acting didn’t “snatch me up at 17 years old from boarding school.”

2. He Rose To Fame For Playing Charles Brandon In ‘The Tudors’

However, Henry Cavill didn’t have a real significance until he was cast on Showtime’s The Tudors back in 2007. The series, set in the 16th century of England, chronicles the Tudor dynasty and the right of King Henry VIII. The show spans four seasons and 38 episodes until its finale in 2010.

“There were so many things happening, so many intrigues, sex and violence – was all full of history that fed you. It was also amazing to bring the friendship between Charles and the King to life,” said the actor during an interview.

3. Henry Cavill Was Also Superman In The DC Extended Universe

A few years after that, Cavill, now hailed as Hollywood’s new favorite sex ntsymbol, made his way io superhero movies. He portrayed Clark Kent aka Superman in the DC Extended Universe, making his debut with Man of Steel in 2013. He portrayed the character further in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), which have grossed more than $2 billion. In fact, he was already rumored to portray the character in Superman Returns in 2006, but it just “didn’t work.”

“As an actor, you cannot get every role. But you cannot afford to get stuck in what did not work – you have to learn from the experience and move on. It will better prepare you for the hard work you have to put into the next role you do get, and the one after that,” he recalled.

4. An Avid Gamer, Cavill Played Many Games To Prepare Him For The Role

Henry Cavill is an avid fan of video games, which turned out for good for him. To prepare him for his role in The Witcher, the actor admitted that he played its video game adaptation for a good amount of hours. Some of his other favorites are the Mass Effect franchise, World of Warcraft, the Total War series, and more.

“I wanted to get as close to the lore as possible. To me, this is a way to show my love for my character in the show. As a fan, I want to protect him,” he said. “It would be painful to me to hear there’s a show that I wasn’t part of and someone had a unique, perhaps even a brilliant interpretation of Geralt.”

5. Henry Cavill Was Almost Cast As James Bond

Cavill auditioned for the infamous macho detective James Bond in the 2000s, although the role ended up in Daniel Craig’s hands as we know it. Despite being only 22 at the time, Cavill was already one of the leading contenders, along with Australian actor Sam Worthington. However, as Daniel Craig retired from James Bond with No Time to Die, could this be the time we see Henry Cavill in it?

“If Barbara (Broccoli, James Bond’s producer) and Mike (Wilson, co-producer) were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity,” he said during a 2020 interview with GQ. “At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting.”
