EastEnders fans go nuts as Cassandra Trotter from Only Fools and Horses makes a surprise appearance

CASSANDRA Trotter actress Gwyneth Strong rocks up on Albert Square as Linda Carter's darts rival – and fans cannot deal.

The star is well known for Rodney Trotter’s (Nicolas Lyndhurst) mousy wife Cassandra in the legendary sitcom.

However, actress Gwyneth Strong was a far cry from her Peckham based alter-ego as she made a shock appearance in tonight’s EastEnders (September 16).

Gwyneth played Geraldine Clough, the tough-talking, hard-nosed rival darts leader that rubs landlady Linda (Kellie Bright) up the wrong way.

Strutting confidently into the Queen Vic with her darts team, Geraldine wasted no time in squaring hop to Linda and fellow players Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack), Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) and Aunt Babe (Annette Bedland).

However, it’s all talk as we later see that Geraldine has cheated at the match.

Demanding an unbiased referee, the sneaky team leader called for the first person that walks into the pub to watch over the match.

Little did everyone know that Geraldine had fixed it for a pal to walk in and throw the match.

With the character a far cry from the shy and retiring Cassadra, fans took to Twitter to express their shock at seeing her on their screens.

One person wrote: “Is that casandra in eastenders?!? Wheres rodders.”

While another commented: “I see Rodney’s wife Casandra has rocked up in @bbceastenders to play a bit of darts #Eastenders #onlyfoolsandhorses.”

A third said: “Ahhh, Cassandra Trotter has rocked up in EastEnders! Bit far from Peckham.”

A fourth added: “Why is cassandra in eastenders!?!?!”

With another tweeting: “Cassandra’s got fed up of the Nag’s Head then. #EastEnders.”

Since playing the iconic character, Gwyneth has also had roles in Silent Witness, A Touch of Frost, Casualty and The Great  Train Robbery.

Gwyneth’s guest appearance in the soap comes as a welcome change seeing as several characters have recently announced their departures.

Samantha Womack and Rita Simons are leaving the soap after several years of playing the feisty Mitchell sisters Ronnie and Roxy.

Danny Boy Hatchard will be leaving his role as Lee Carter, as well as his on-screen mum Linda Carter as actress Kellie Bright is going on maternity leave.

And within days of each other three big stars have announced their exits.

Nitin Ganatra (Masood Ahmed), Ellen Thomas (Claudette Hubbard) and Riley Carter-Millington (Kyle Slater) have all announced that they will be exiting Albert Square.

With all these departures, here’s hoping that Cassandra aka Geraldine will be around for a while!
